IgNITE is Project Pulse Ottawa's Science Case Competition
Project Pulse Ottawa is proud to announce that alongside its third conference, Project Pulse Spark, it will release the second science case competition.
How does it work?
This competition is open to students currently attending high school or an undergraduate program at no cost for registration. We ask that you please register in teams of 2 to 4 students.
This year the competition is no longer focused on a central theme. Rather the case package will provided 3 keywords. One of the keywords will discuss a certain field of science. Teams must identify an issue within this field of science and develop a research proposal using the other two keywords in their research methodology. The case package will be released during Spark 2017. We will provide further details as well as the opportunity to interact with last year's winners who were involved in writing the case package, so make sure to attend the conference as well. You will gain valuable information to help you in writing your proposol.
a) provide a solution for an aspect of the theme, alongside a proof of concept, or
b) create a research methodology to further the scientific community's understanding of an aspect of the theme.
Your team is required to submit a research proposal which addresses either (a) or (b) in a creative manner. Remember that you are developing a methodology to test a hypothesis; your idea, no matter how innovative, must have a scientifically sound background.
The Judging Criteria
The exact judging criteria will be released along with the case package. We will be looking for submissions that are creative, scientifically sound, and effectively communicate the idea of the proposal. Projects that advance to the second round will be asked to prepare a poster presentation which they will be judged on during our first ever IgNITE Science Case Competition Conference. During this conference, held in April, teams will present the poster they had prepared to a panel of judges for 10 minutes. Members of the public will also be invited to the conference who you are allowed to present to as well. At the end of the conference, the highest scoring team in both the proposal and presentation will be announced as the winner of IgNITE 2017 and will be awarded a $500 stipend (this value may increase approaching the conference date).
